Axe Training

Stav Training with Graham Butcher

The day will be divided into four seminars to cover different aspects of Stav martial training. There will be sufficient experienced practitioners of Stav present to accomdate beginners as well as experienced students.

The exact content of the seminar will depend to an extent on what is asked for by those still training in Somerset since Graham moved on to Beverely. However, the outline programme will be as follows:

  • 1000hrs Opening stances followed by:
  • Staff training including staff exercises and two person training drills. Experienced students can work with the nine guards
  • 1130hrs Break
  • 1145hrs Axe training, basic cuts, two person axe drills and using the axe for attacking when practising the nine guards
  • 1315hrs Lunch
  • 1345hrs Introducing a Stav approach to self–defence and Close Quarter Combat. Will include five principles knife defence
  • 1515hrs Break
  • 1530hrs CQC weapons, the cudgel/langsax and tein/dagger
  • 1700hrs Closing Stances and dismissal
  • Where?

    We have used Buckland St Mary Village hall on several previous occasions. There is ample space for indoor and outdoor training. There is plenty of parking space. If you need to come by public transport then please make your way to Crewkerne or Chard and a lift can be made available. The location is described above and travel instructions will be sent upon payment of your fee for the day.

    How Much?

    Full cost is £25 for the day. Refreshments, such as tea, coffe and soft drinks will be included. Please bring a packed lunch as I am not aware of anywhere to buy food nearby.
